چکیده

Individual differences can influence a learner’s ability to extract information from dynamic, interactive animations. (Lowe, 2004). In three previous experiments, the author demonstrated that 1) spatial ability; and 2) the frequency with which participants interacted with an animated computer model made significant contributions to performance on a spatial visualization task in which they had to imagine and draw the cross-section of a threedimensional object (Cohen et al., 2004). The present protocol study investigated the strategy differences between highand lowspatial individuals, including differences on how they interacted with 3D visualizations during task performance.

Pre Test Excerpt

Stimulus generalization is often regarded as a fundamental component of category learning, yet it has not been directly studied in this context. Here we develop a technique for measuring generalization based on sequential effects in subjects’ responses. We find that patterns of generalization can adapt to global properties of the task, but only when the category structure is defined by perceptu...

Pre Test Excerpt

Previous research has shown that participants’ comprehension of spatial information described in text improves when either graphics or animation accompanies the text (Morrison & Tverksy, 2001). This relationship was found to be true in all cases for low spatial ability participants; however, it was only true under the most difficult conditions for high spatial ability participants. When given e...

An investigation of pre-schoolers’ corporeal synchroniza- tion with music

We present new methods for studying pre-schoolers’ rhythmic and music-synchronization abilities. 46 children (2 – 4 years of age) were presented with a familiar excerpt of music, in as natural a setting as possible, and their movements recorded with an optical motion capture system and standard video camera. In order to examine the synchronization process, the music excerpt contained abrupt tem...

Toward A Comprehensive Theory of Subtle Energies Part I. Introduction: From the Great Chain of Being to Postmodernism in Three Easy Steps

The following is an excerpt from the first draft of volume 2 of the Kosmos trilogy, tentatively titled Kosmic Karma (volume 1 of that trilogy was Sex, Ecology, Spirituality). This excerpt suggests a coherent and comprehensive theory of the many approaches to subtle energies, their origin, nature, and development. This particular excerpt comes toward the end of the volume, which means that someb...
